plus. Innovation

Brockton’s history is filled with the spirit and drive of great leaders—entrepreneurs, inventors, sports champions, and visionaries. William McGunnigle invented the baseball glove. Davis DeBard saved Brockton from the influenza epidemic. Thomas Edison discovered electricity.

I believe great leaders look to great leadership of the past to remind us of what is possible, and look forward with vision and passion to make the most of our changing world—a world that rewards individuals, institutions, and cities that connect in dynamic ways to ideas and resources across borders.

This is why, for my first term as your At-Large City Councilor, I am focused on bringing "innovation" back to Brockton. I have launched three major initiatives that will put Brockton on the cutting-edge of new ideas, city planning, and public service:

  1. Innovations Conference. This multi-day convening will bring together global thought-leaders—policymakers, business leaders, educational entrepreneurs, investors—with one focus: to outline what Brockton needs to do to become a 21st century city.
  2. HIV Home Testing Pilot. Brockton has one of the highest HIV/AIDS rates in the state. With a 30-minute home HIV testing kit coming to market, this program will provide local wrap-around services to residents (support hotline, cross-cultural packaging, vouchers to reduce cost, etc.).
  3. Art/History/Entrepreneurial Center. Too many kids involved in crime lack a “sense of place.” The center will ground young people in their history, provide a place to explore their talents, and encourage them to take ownership of the creative economy through media and the arts.
